Doug Smith


Born in 1963, Doug Smith played in the CJHL for the Nepean Raiders. In 1978/79, he scored 24 goals in 24 games for the Raiders.

Doug starred for 2 years and 1 game with the Ottawa 67’s, collecting 69 goals and 92 assists for 161 points. The Los Angeles Kings made Doug the second overall selection, behind only Dale Hawerchuk, in the 1981 NHL entry draft.


Making his NHL debut in 1981/82, Doug played 80 games in his first year with LA., scoring 16 goals and 14 assists for 30 points. He scored his first NHL goal in his first NHL game at the age of 18. Doug helped Los Angeles to the Division Final in his first playoff action.

Doug was traded to Buffalo in January of 1986, and played 162 games over 3 seasons in Buffalo before being claimed by Edmonton in the 1988 Waiver Draft.


Doug played for the Edmonton Oilers in 88/89, and was then traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1990, where he finished his NHL career.

Doug went on to play 3 more years in Austria, and retired in 1992.

His NHL career stats include 535 games played,115 goals, 138 assists for 253 points and 624 PIM.
